MPBC Usher Ministry Vision

To be the best Usher Ministry in Northern VA.

MPBC Usher’ Ministry Mission

To be doorkeepers in the house of God, and guard the same at all times during Mount Pleasant Baptist Church services. “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked” (Psalms 84:10)

“Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement” Acts 4:36
“ With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.” Acts 5:2

Choosing the Seven

“In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. 2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.” Acts: 1-2

A Deacon/Deaconess is "selected" to service by the church.  The nature of the office is more than selection; it is a service to be rendered and a life to be dedicated.  On becoming a Deacon/Deaconess, it is a two-way transaction.  First, the church must select the person.  Second, the person must be committed to serve the church congregation.

The relationship of a Deacon/Deaconess to the body is not to honor the person, yet it is an honor beyond most things in life.  Therefore, the challenge of humility is especially important in the attitude and life of a deacon.  The relationship of a Deacon/Deaconess to the church is one of being set apart to service – to serve the congregation.  The relationship of a deacon and his family is one of a personal sacrifice.  The sacrifice can be seen in the forfeit of some personal privileges to be individualistic.  A Deacon/Deaconess will; Strive for the unity of the church, Support the church’s decision over their desires, him/herself to the service of the congregation and in support of the Pastor.

The seven men of Acts 6 looked after the needy in the first church; after the Jerusalem conference, a caution was laid on the preachers not to neglect the widows and the poor.

The looking after the needy, not neglecting the widows and the poor are the things assigned to Deacons because they are the things the Apostles had been doing before turning the responsibility over to the seven. (See Our Scripture below)

Deacons are really expected to do anything that is germane to the life and well being of the church.  The Deacon is to do those things needed to make dedicated time available to the Pastor for preparation, preaching, and teaching of the Gospel.
