Missions Ministry
Greetings, in the Name of Jesus!
I will take this opportunity to provide a brief overview of the exciting and vital Missions Ministry at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. It is our charge to operate in the vision of the Church, which is based on Matt 28: 19-20, "...Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything Jesus commanded…" Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we make disciples locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
Our charge is accomplished through several active ministries that strive to serve God and exalt the name of Jesus. They include, but are not limited to prayer, prison ministry, evangelism, visiting the sick and international missions. Because of generous givers, we are able to take the gospel on the road and support vital partner ministries who share our vision.
I thank God for sustaining us as we carry out the great commission by impacting our community, our nation and our world. I thank Him for blessing our endeavors to sow the Gospel, and that under the direction of our Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. James L. Graham, Jr., that the harvest of souls will continue to be great. God has rewarded the ministry with an awesome and committed team, who work diligently to honor Jesus, our Savior.
In His service,
Pastor Sheila Allen
Director of Missions
Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church
Our Mission
We are committed to fulfilling our church mission as well as the Great Commission Jesus gave to the church to...
"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything Jesus commanded..." Matthew 28:19-20
Our Vision
To see people from all walks of life come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ
Cameron Glenn
The Cameron Glen Ministry provides loving outreach ministry to the Cameron Glen Convalescent Facility in Reston, VA. Each third Sunday of the month, an onsite worship service is held for the residents. Bible study is conducted once a month to teach the basics of the Christian faith.
Our Mission
The mission of the Cameron Glen Outreach ministry is to provide monthly worship service and monthly Bible study to the residents of the Cameron Glen Rehabilitation Facility. This includes the provision of Bibles and Bible study materials.
Our Vision
The vision of the ministry is that by providing worship and Bible study, the residents of Cameron Glen will be edified and disciple. That the Gospel will draw the unsaved into a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Our Scripture
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." John 8:31-32

Intercessory Prayer
Our Intercessory Prayer Ministry is an anointed group of believers who meet at MPBC to pray every Tuesday evening at 6:30PM. Our normal meeting place is in classroom 2L; however, this location is subject to change, based on the lead of the Holy Spirit and the number of participants. We pray according to the Word of God and by the power of the Holy Spirit for individual prayer request
We also ask that when God answers your prayers, that first you give Him All Glory and Honor. Intercessors meet each Tuesday at 6:30 pm. God bless you. Remember:
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus...I can do everything through him who gives me strength." Philippians 4:6-7 & 13
The Intercessory Prayer Group exercises our individual rights as believers to come boldly to the throne of grace to find help – and pray together collectively in one accord for even greater power and authority as directed by the Word:
“Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18: 19-20
Our Mission
To train up God’s people into the knowledge, faith, power and application of intercessory prayer in order to lift up the Name of Jesus and to intercede on behalf of others, by boldly approaching the throne of grace, speaking and listening to God.
“And when they had prayed the place was shaken where they were assembled together and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost and they spake the word of God with boldness.” Acts 4: 31
Our Vision
We submit to Christ as the Head of the church and strive to obey His command that His church should be called a “House of Prayer.” With faith, we humbly seek the will of God in all things. We pray using the word of God as our guide and to hear from heaven with positive expectation. We view intercessory prayer as a mighty tool, utilized to undergird the Church universal and believe that the prayers of the righteous avail much. We give God the glory in all aspects of this prayer ministry. “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” James 5: 16

Evangelism Ministry
Our Mission
To go and make disciples of all nations by following Jesus Christ and equipping trainees to share the gospel with non-believers.
Our Vision
- To share the gospel of Jesus Christ in a natural and non-threatening way with non-believers
- To encourage all non-believers to believe in Jesus Christ
- To make certain believers have assurance of eternal life
- To help believers grow into disciples of Jesus Christ
- To increase the number of disciples exponentially
- To unify all ministries within Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church by “unleashing the missionaries in the pews.”
Scriptures
"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
“He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” Mark 16:15
“He told them, ‘This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.'“ Luke 24: 46-47
When We Meet
Our Evangelism Ministry is a dedicated group of believers who meet on Monday evenings at 6:00 pm. Our normal meeting place is in the church.
A portion of our meeting time is spent in the classroom training and the remainder of the time is spent on the job training ("O.J.T") outside of the church. Our meetings are divided into two thirteen (13) week semesters.
What We Do
- Utilize the Bible as our primary teaching too
- lIncorporate the Youth Evangelism Explosion ("EE") teaching technique to equip trainees to share the gospel of Jesus Christ
What is Evangelism Explosion ("EE")?
- EE is an effective strategy for training laypeople to spread God's message
- Youth EE is an adaptation of the adult EE in which the Gospel presentation is given in a less formal "user friendly" contemporary style
- EE incorporates a 13-week training semester
- Gives a model gospel presentation
- Implements on-the-job training ("O.J.T")
- Enlists prayer partners
- Organizes a visitation ministry
- Multiply the number of trainers into witnesses

Prison
Our Mission
The Prison Ministry serves the incarcerated and their families by preaching and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, providing God led mentorship, and supplying after release nurturing.
Scripture
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:35-36
Partners
The Prison Ministry of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church is a partner of the international organization Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, Inc. The Good News Jail and Prison Ministry is a non-profit organization established in 1961 that provides chaplains at correctional facilities all over the world, including Northern Virginia , at no cost to the facilities or states themselves. We also partner with local churches such as Antioch Baptist Church and Truro Church to provide quality services for the inmates and ex-offenders.
Areas Of Ministry
Sunday Worship – We provide Sunday worship services at the Fairfax Adult Detention Center for both men and women inmates at least once a month. We do our best to create an atmosphere similar to a Sunday service here at MPBC. These services consist of songs of praise and worship, scripture reading, rousing testimonies, sermons of salvation and encouragement, and powerful prayer.
In House Mentoring – We also provide one on one mentoring for both men and women at the Fairfax Adult Detention Center . The schedule is completely determined by each volunteer. The early morning works better for you? You can visit right after breakfast. You work late into the evening? You can still visit after work. We recommend our mentors visit their mentees at least once every one to two weeks.
After Care Mentoring – The most crucial time for ex-convicts is the 24 to 48 hours immediately after being released from incarceration. The aftercare program, which is led by Truro Church of Fairfax and consists of over thirty churches, takes on the challenge of helping the ex-convicts to not fall back into the lifestyle that landed them in jail. Mentors are assigned to inmates up to three months prior to their release to at least six months after their release. Upon release, a mentor is there to greet the inmate right at the door, welcoming him or her to their new life under the direction of God Almighty. We don't believe in or practice giving our personal advice to mentees. We only provide guidance derived from the Holy Bible. There is a thorough, several weeks training course that equips all mentors with the tools to help our brothers and sisters with Christian living, addiction, unemployment, housing, etc.
Future Ministries – We hope to expand our services to weekly Bible study, more jails and prisons, supplies, and whatever else God instructs us to do. We need your help to do so!

Visitation Ministry
Vision
To establish a ministry of presence with effective hospital and home visitation for the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church family.
Mission
The Visitation Ministry is devoted to visiting and praying for the sick and shut in by travelling to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church area hospitals and homes to encourage church members and families. Encouragement is accomplished through Scripture reading, and specific prayer for healing and comfort.
Scripture
Matthew 25:36 -40 (NKJV):
I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me. “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Domestic Missions
The Domestic Missions exists to inform church members of home mission opportunities and to provide encouragement and resources for those who choose to participate in these opportunities. There is a variety of ways that Christians demonstrate God's love and bring others to faith in Jesus.
Three broad categories stand out:
- Praying
- Giving
- Going
Mount Pleasant Baptist prays for the local community and the world as they focus on Christian missionaries and the people of specific domestic regions. An annual mission offering provides financial resources that fund mission activities around the Washington, DC metro area to include our friends in North and South Carolina. Church members of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to volunteer for mission activities. Volunteers may work with at-risk youths through a local Christian agency, with inmates in correctional facilities, or with people of various ethnicities and languages locally or in other states or countries. Volunteers may serve individually or as part of a group, occasionally or for long-term assignments. Tutoring, singing, preaching, providing professional services, serving meals, repairing a home, or just providing a listening ear are among the many ways volunteers serve.
International Missions
Our Vision
That we will be an empowered, disciple making mission team focusing on the international field “ … and you will be my witnesses … to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (NIV)

Branch of Love
The Branch of Love Ministry continues to bless families in need. Each year the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church family provides Christmas gifts for more than 100 children and youth of families supported by our Nurturing Ministry and Fairfax County incarcerated parents. In the past this ministry was known as the Angel Tree Ministry, however in 2009 Mount Pleasant Baptist Church partnered with the chaplain at the Fairfax County Jail of Virginia to form the Fairfax Chapter which focuses solely on local families.
This Ministry continues to thrive because of the multitude of volunteers and families who contribute their time and bring gifts for our Branch of Love families. Branch of Love is a Good News Jail and Prison Ministry. Find more information at: www.goodnewsjail.org
