2017 Pastoral Guidance

 August 9, 2016

My Brothers and Sisters, What a mighty God we serve! In 2016, Mount Pleasant Baptist church will have celebrated its 150th Church Anniversary. In this day and age that is such a tremendous blessing. Churches are closing their doors every day YET God is still blessing Mount Pleasant “day by day”. As we move forward I want to continue to build on what has been planted the last 150 years. Let us always be faithful stewards of the Mount Pleasant legacy.

It is my delight to share with you Pastoral Guidance for 2017. I want to thank you once again for allowing me the opportunity to serve as Senior Pastor of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. I do not take this responsibility lightly. I look forward to working with the Pastoral Staff, Diaconate, Leadership and members of the church to continue to build the Kingdom of God.

Our theme for 2017 is going to be: “Committed to Excellence- Colossians 3:23-24; “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving (Col. 3:23-24 NIV84).” There are three particular areas that I want us to be committed to: Spiritual Growth, Service and Saving the Lost. I believe that focusing on these three areas will allow us to not only build on what makes Mount Pleasant such a special church, but also work on some areas where growth is needed. We will continue our focus on missions while also building up each member of the Mount Pleasant Church so that they can go out in the world and be better disciples.

It is my hope that as each ministry prepares its budget for 2017, that it can ask itself two questions: Are we functioning with a commitment to be excellent in what we do? And, is what we are doing reaching one of the three focus areas? This will allow us to take a deeper look at our activities, programs and events. Are we just doing things to be doing them or is there a purpose in what we are doing? These are all critical questions to ask as we move forward in trying to build the Kingdom of God. I realize that I am a new Pastor still trying to navigate my way around things. I am still in the observation mode. That is why it will be imperative that the Ministry Directors work with me in making this a smooth transition. As we work together in “letting our lights so shine” God will get all the glory!

This “Commitment to Excellence” will also be a focus in our Administration efforts. I have asked Executive Pastor, Dr. Nathaniel Brooks to begin working on an Operations Manual that will provide guidance or direction on how things are to be done at Mount Pleasant. We are going to need your input to make this a successful effort. We want everyone to be on the same page as we try to build the Kingdom of God.

I am excited about what God has in store for the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. In the words of scripture; “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him (1 Cor. 2:9; KJV).” Let us all work together for the Kingdom and watch what God does.

Because He lives,

Rev. Dr. Kevin E. Donalson, Sr. Senior Pastor
